Here's some community work projects you may want to be involved in.
The league of parents and small people against pocket kering (Ongoing)
This is an income generating project where children use their hard worn skills to conduct children-experience parties for adults. The adults get to learn from these children through the fun games, activities and the Press Conference of Hope and Faith. Watch the video to find out more. We hope to have more parties this year.
guidebook editing project
At THKFSC@Tanjong Pagar, we are committed to two main causes: Challenges of Poverty and Transnational families. Families often experience challenges in navigating daily tasks because of multiple factors. Yet, each family has skills and knowledge about overcoming these obstacles. Daily stressors overwhelms all of us and prevents us from coming together and share these collectively. We think that co-creating (helmed by the families) a guide book for navigating things like immigration, education, english lessons and employment for Transnational families and ways to effectively apply for subsidies, financial assistance and helpful employment options could be valuable for these families.
104 105 106: A collection of writings by residents
As part of a Typography course that i did, i compiled some stories, poems and writings of our residents in our neighbourhood. Check it out here.
This project is suspended till we have resources to nurture more formal ways of journalism and designing skills in the community. Tell us if you want to start it up!
adopt-a-talent
One of the first paintings by N.S.
There is no one way to social mobility. Some of our children are self-taught artists, dancers, and actors. They do not have access and opportunities that would give them a head start in these areas of development. If you have connections and resources to an artistic community, Adopt-a-talent! Another opportunity would be for english classes as most of our children need special attention and training for their English.
donation corner
As much as we would wish that everyone has sufficient resources for their nutritional health and well being, the low income do not. Literacy rates are extremely low too with children in P3 not knowing their ABCs or how to read. If you want to drop something off or contribute to their educational needs, feel free to contact me.
